Places I Have Been
Picked up this little diversion from Dave O's blog. Here are maps that show where I have been in the U.S. This one shows all the states I have been to, including ones that I simply drove through:
This one shows states where I have lived, worked, or recreated for a significant amount of time (does not include driving, truck stops, or Waffe Houses):
Both beg the question: Am I avoiding West Virginia?

I have avoided West Virginia, but I've ended up there anyway.
Can we count states if we have been only to an airport for a layover? Can I count Michigan because I have been "through" the Dtroit airport once?
And--do you know if I-40 cuts into Alabama for just a mile or two way up in the Northeastern corner?--or am I just using some wishful thinking to fill in my electoral map?
I count layover states for the "been to" category. Texas is a layover state for me (I was on the way to Mexico). Never stepped foot out of the airport. Couldn't tell you about I-40, but I would say you really need to spend time in Alabama to get a feel for it's subtle pleasures. I spent summers there as a kid. It's like Georgia without all the PR, razzle dazzle, and Zell Miller.
the bigger questions are: when will lori visit canada? when will i see mexico?
as a sidenote, i spent a june in west virginia, after my junior year of high skool. it was pretty. i was on a student work crew for the national park service. we converted an abandoned rail track into bike paths.
